Niagara on the Lake

If you are ever in the Niagara Falls area, you really should consider driving up to Niagara on the Lake. It’s not very far, and like Niagara Falls, itself, it is a touristy town, but in a different way. The city of Niagara Falls (the Canadian one) trends to the gaudy and tacky, but Niagara on the Lake is quainter, more refined, and more upscale.

After parking on a side street, this corner view across the main street was the first thing that we saw. It is plain that this restaurant is not exactly Joe's Diner.

We passed by this interesting building. That guy out front sure didn't seem happy about having his picture taken. Ain't that a pity?

Since Cuppa already owns a pretty and nifty umbrella, she was able to resist.

She also looked at hats but couldn't find one to suit.

However, these little gems (so to speak) could not be passed up. I think one is for Thesha — if Cuppa can bear to part with any.

There is also a Shaw Festival Theatre (as in George Bernard Shaw) that draws its share of tourists.

It was a pleasant few hours visit except for the parking ticket, which I reserve the right to rant about at a later time.

In the meantime if you are in the neighbourhood, don’t just visit The Falls, but do drive up the Niagara Parkway and stop here and there, like in Niagara on the Lake or the butterfly conservatory or the botanical gardens or one of the very many wineries.

First of all: Happy anniversary (I know I am late, blame it on the horse). Love the photos and especially the first one in your last post, you say it’s of Cuppa taking a photo, but it could just as easily have been her smelling one of the blooms (which I thought she did until I read the caption).

  2. Ahhh….Parking ticket?Hahaa….ohnooo….sorry! Sort of puts a damper on things doesn’t it?!!

I always love traveling virtually, especially to places where I’ve not been, such as this. Looks like you had lovely traveling weather, and Cuppa was having a load of fun! She has excellent taste, from my perspective!

Sounds like a lovely place to visit. I hear from Philip that you are going to be meeting up in the near future. I am green with envy. Why don’t y’all come South???? … all the way to North Carolina, that is.

Wow she did look lovely. I spot a hat that is prefect for her outfit. Nice group of umbrellas. Love your little tours for the blog world.

Oh I almost feel I was there shopping with Cuppa, love the butterflies and it looks like you had beautiful weather. Sorry about the parking ticket…..:-)Hugs

  7. Cuppa got to go shopping and all you got was a parking ticket – doesn’t seem like a fair exchange, AC.

We always park a few blocks from the main street to avoid the parking fees. And we always stop at the Beau Chapeau for a new hat. I love this town.

I’ve spent many a day wanding the lovely and quaint streets of NOTL.. but not for a number of years now. Maybe this summer. Thanks for the reminder. I enjoyed your photos.
