Obama Cookies

This is the last installment of our trip into town last week. Promise.

First, what is Cuppa doing sitting here in a cafe: aside from chilling out and flaunting her parasol?

I mean why this bistro? Why Le Moulin de Province? (Note: Cuppa is sitting, parasol down in this picture. ↓ )

Well … because this is where President Obama stopped when he visited Ottawa in February 2009. On a whim, he had them stop the cavalcade, and he hopped out and bought a cookie. Actually, I think he stopped at the other outlet on the south side of the market building, where he also bought a beavertail from a vendor across the street.

Supposedly, he bought this ↓ cookie, but I have a sneaky feeling that this might be just a commemorative cookie. You can even purchase a special tin to put it in … and keep afterward. We resisted the tin. This link mentions the beavertail and what they are but not the bistro although there is a picture of Obama by the restaurant.

He didn’t have far to go because the market is just down the street from the American Embassy ↓ although I guess he was on his way to the airport at the time. The unplanned stop must have given the security people fits.

… The End …

… really …

This is an interesting post AC, I really like Obama and find he works so hard to bring everyone together but gets little thanks for it. As David Cameron said this world is not only broken it is sick……:-)Hugs

Whew–saw your title, and thought to myself–what is this Canadian blogger up to? Curiosity satisfied.

  4. Lorna says:

I remember loving when he stopped to buy cookies; we llike to think we’re just like famous people.

  5. Pearl says:

I’m always amazed at how many people stop and get their pictures taken with the picture of Obama on the door.

  6. Ruth says:

I have had an Obama cookie from here twice now, and I ate at the Heart and Crown too. Nice tour of Ottawa…
(Too bad Obama gets blamed for all the history passed on by the last president. )

  7. Mary G says:

He really did buy cookies like those for his girls – I wonder what their mama thought of the sugar load.
I agree 100% with the ‘gets blamed for history’ comment. And he is going to get blamed for the next financial mess caused by the Tea Party twerps too. Such is the price of being rolled into the presidency on a cloud of unrealistic expectations.
